Does Yahoo Messenger crash when you run video and voice?

Someone asked me what to do to solve the following issue. He tried to run video and voice setup for yahoo messenger 10 and the program crashed. He reinstalled the application many times with different accounts and with administrator privileges and it still didn't work.


My solution for him was:


"If you use Internet Explorer 8 as your browser, Messenger 10 will only work if you have installed Adobe (formerly Macromedia) Flash and Java. Messenger 9 or 8 work without these.


If Messenger 10 doesn't work properly, Download and SAVE the program directly from the File Hippo web site - it seems more successful than an update or install from Yahoo's site, or even choosing to install by Run. Install it only AFTER completely cleaning the registry of remnants.


Check by using 'Search for files...' in Programs, and delete any references to 'Yahoo! Messenger' that you find, except the profile folder - note the exclamation mark in the program title. Also, go to My Computer > Local Disk > Programs and delete any Messenger files there."

MSN vs Yahoo Messenger!

Instant messaging has become an important part of internet time for us. We use countless hours in these places to communicate with people. MSN messenger receives a bit more popularity as this messenger used to come with the popular operating system. Yahoo, on the other hand, gained popularity because of faster and better services. Previously, the conference or group chat system that MSN had could only allow around 4 people because if you go beyond that point, it used to cause problems. Recently we have found MSN and Yahoo working together and many features of Yahoo started to appear in MSN. For instance, the new “Appear Offline” option of MSN came from Yahoo’s “invisible” option. Now-a-days, it seems like all the features of MSN are available in Yahoo and vice-versa but with just different names. People can now also chat with Yahoo contacts using MSN and MSN contacts using Yahoo!. Nevertheless, when you are chatting this way, not all features are provided to you.

Therefore, at this point, the it is hard to point out the better one. I think MSN has a larger user base at this point and so you can reach more people through MSN than Yahoo! Hence, we see more people using MSN. Therefore, the choice would come down to the flexibility of individuals. That’s exactly what we are observing now.

Generating the Signature

The most complex parameter is the signature sig. The signature verifies that the request came from your application and helps prevent replay attacks.

Although constructing the signature might seem daunting, all the components are easy to obtain. The basic algorithm for generating the signature and the URL is:

For Developers - Login to Yahoo Messenger - Step 1

Retrieving the User's Credentials

When Yahoo! redirects the user from the Yahoo! login page to your endpoint URL, the URL includes a token parameter. This token is valid for fourteen days, and represents the user's willingness to allow you to make web service calls on their behalf. 

The next step is to retrieve the auth cookie and the WSSID, which comprise the credentials you need to make authenticated web service calls. When retrieving credentials, try to make the call in a manner that does not interrupt the user experience. 

To retrieve the WSSID and auth cookie, make a request to the URL https://api.login.yahoo.com/WSLogin/V1/wspwtoken_login with these parameters: 

Field	Description
appid	The application ID, which identifies the developer and the application. Obtained during initial application registration. You must pass this parameter in both the query string and your application's User-Agent.
ts	The timestamp in seconds as measured from Jan 1, 1970 GMT. To make sure that your clock is in sync with Yahoo! servers, use the Network Time Protocol Daemon (ntpd).
token	The token returned by the user from the Yahoo! login server.
sig	An MD5 hash of a carefully constructed relative URL: A login path (/WSLogin/V1/wspwtoken_login), plus Your application ID (?appid=id), plus The user's token, (&token=token), plus The timestamp (&ts=seconds), plus Your shared secret (secret).

Yahoo Booter 2010: Raid Version XVIII

Raid 18 has been completely overhauled and done from scratch with Delphi instead of Visual Basic.

This vastly improves performance and speed and cuts memory usage.

I cut back on the number of booting options because, simply put, I wanted to add the options that
actually work these days. Quality over quantity so to speak.

The account locker was made for the sole purpose of yahoo messenger. In testing, I was able to
successfully lock my personal yahoo account out of messenger for 12 hours with lock option

1. Lock option 2 worked about 50% of the time as it is a completely different method than
option 1.

Now to the yahoo client boot options...

Client Boot 1 is for any client NOT logged into the 102 protocol, and can also be used for yahoo messenger
booting.

As you will notice, I added the ability to boot the old way and to boot using charge/release for every boot
option. This was vitally important to Client Boot 2. For  Y!supra 102, I  recommend open 2 instances of
Raid and loading around 200 bots in one and 200 in another. In one, charge the client boot 2 option(Dont release yet).

In the other one, just use the regular boot with client boot 2 and send 1000+ packets. Now while that one
is booting the victim, hit release on the other instance. If you have a high enough internet connection
speed, this will fill the victim's buffer and they will get disconnected. This method will work on any client
that uses the 102 protocol. The key is filling the victim's buffer.

IMPORTANT: If you are getting banned easily, SLOW YOUR LOG IN DELAY DOWN TO AT LEAST 2000 MS!!!

Removing "Connected to" status

Yahoo Messenger is one of the most used instant messaging programs, but for some time more and more users are complaining about their status message "Connected to".   

"Connected to" is a new Yahoo! Profile Connection (different than contact on your messenger list). The fact that it shows up on Yahoo Messenger is part of the Profile Updates. You can pick and choose which updates you want to share and also choose not to share any.

Read below what to do to get rid of this message.
 
1. Open your Yahoo! Contacts.
2. At the top of your list of contacts, click the first down arrow after All Contacts, and then select Connections in the pull-down menu.

All of your connections display below.
3. Find and click the name of the connection you want to remove.
4. In the contact's details, next to Connection, click Remove.

Note: Removing a connection does not remove a person from your Yahoo! Contacts. If you want to remove the person from your Contacts, click the trash icon in the upper-right corner of the person's detail page.

A new Yahoo Messenger Virus

A variant of an existing worm is attacking Yahoo Messenger users with impressive speed, security analysts said Tuesday.

Launched May 1 after a Romanian holiday, Yahoo Messenger users in the European nation were prompted to launch the worm on their PCs after receiving an IM believed to be from a Buddy; the emoticon-filled IM includes a photo link which delivers the worm, and then takes over the user's PC to deliver the same link to friends on their Buddy List.

An .exe file is required to be executed in order to run the virus.

The worm, known as Palevo, W32.Ymfocard.fam.Botnet, or W32.Yimfoca depending on antivirus software, spread at an infection rate of 500 percent per hour beginning over the weekend, according to Dark Reading.

The virus is also reported to "install malware, steal files, intercept passwords, and launch span or other malware attacks."

Furthermore, PC users who are infected by the worm may also have infected USB drives connected to the computer at the moment of infection, increasing the opportunity for infecting other computers in the process.

Protect yourself from vulnerabilities by checking with Buddies before clicking any link, and updating your antivirus software.

Webcam in Yahoo Messenger

How to Use Your Webcam in Yahoo Messenger

• Step 1
  Head to the Yahoo home page, turn on Yahoo Messenger using the 'Messenger' link and log in using your account name and password. You'll need to create an account if you haven't done so already (see Resources below).
  
• Step 2
  Click the 'Messenger' followed by the 'Start My Webcam' option. This will load your webcam, and is among the ways you can get your webcam to begin broadcasting.
  
• Step 3
  Click on the camera icon that appears in a chat window while you are talking to a friend.

  Click on a contact from your Contact List, then click 'Invite to View My Webcam.' This opens a new IM window with your webcam active.

  Click the 'View Webcam' link while talking to others in IM. This will allow you to see their webcams.

  Use the 'Super Webcam' mode when you want to send and receive high-quality images and feeds. Broadband makes it possible to see one another in very high resolution, although even with high-end broadband your computer may slow down a bit because of the amount of memory and processing power this requires.

Tips & Warnings

Fixing Yahoo Messenger error 81003002

There was one incident noted today by one of our clients that Yahoo! Messenger is inaccessible. As I figured it out, the sign in problem in Yahoo that he has been getting was error 81003002 which normally advises users to find out if they were putting in their correct Yahoo! ID and password. Having to try it many times could be stressful and annoying. The sign in error was not remote because it was the same for all PCs running within the network.

Unlike Yahoo! error 81003004, Yahoo messenger error 81003002 has nothing to do with internet connection. Like most users have observed while using Yahoo Messenger 9, its bugs really causes a lot of issues which are not even resolved in their blog.

Here’s what you need to do in case you encountered Yahoo messenger error 81003002:

• Double check your Yahoo ID and password. If at several times of sign in attempts but you still get the same error, restart you PC and if you are connected to a modem or router, do the same. If you are sure that no virus has actually penetrated the system, there is no need to run a system scan.
• While some blogs advice re installation of the software (of the same version, i.e. v9) and some may even advice removal of v.9 and installation on an older Yahoo messenger version like Yahoo Messenger 8, do not waste your time as I have already done that. The older version of the IM software no longer works.

Again, if you have had error 81003002 while attempting to sign in to Yahoo, open Windows Task Manager (by pressing CLT+ALT+DEL), select Processes and find YahooMessenger.exe and click End Process. Try to do this several times but if it does not work, then try to reinstall the software. Doing this step does not guarantee that you will be able to sign in but its worth the try. The surprising thing is that when it happened to me, I removed Yahoo Messenger v9 on one of the PCs within my nextwork, the next day when my sister checked it out, she was able to sign in. It just simply fixed itself overtime. Huh?! It’s fascinating why did it happen? Could it be that our IP has been blocked by Yahoo for the entire day and restored it afterward? It’s not a virus as I’m 100% sure. It could be a bug though but I’m not certain what caused it so what I did was reinstall the instant messenger again and I was able to sign in to Yahoo messenger finally.

This is what happened and it’s something that I don’t have any technical reason to offer but I suspect that it was really a bug. Have you experienced the same scenario? What did you do?

Groups are a useful way to keep your contacts organized in your list.You can add your contact to your multiple groups in yahoo messenger.It is really easy to do.

If you want to avoid talking to strangers (which I always recommend)i.e. wanna talk to your buddies only, Check Ignore anyone.. option. That helps you be safe and block on the unwanted and potential hackers from reaching you. See the screen-shot below.

4. Use other Chat Clients

Yahoo Messenger has too many loopholes. It doesn't have a strong security to block contents either. So, if you want to get rid of spams and porn contents all under one go, then you should go for some popular and secure yahoo chat clients like Yazak. You can also go for Yah-Elite and Yam They may not have the same sophisticated GUI or entertainment features but they will increase the security of the chat sessions by many folds.
Here is a link that can help you with some more chat clients. I don't recommend any except these.

5. Always Use Newer Versions of Yahoo Messenger

Remember, the more you stay with the older versions and feel lazy to get upgraded, the more you are helping the hackers. Yahoo or any software, brings out these updates not only to extend features but also due to security reasons. A newer version of yahoo messenger 9 is hardly bootable by DoS attack whereas Yahoo Messenger 7 can be booted out or hacked by a script kiddie.

6. Don't download Yahoo Plug-ins from Unauthorized source

Do not ever download a plug-in of Yahoo messenger from any other site however lucrative it be. Plug-ins like these exploit the vulnerability once installed and send your account details to a third party revealing and cracking down your id. So, better be safe than sorry. No?

7. Use Proxy if you have a Better Firewall

Yahoo also gives you option to change your proxy. Go to Preferences and hunt down Proxy servers. You will see that you can set your own proxy server so that Yahoo gets redirected through yours giving you a better chance to protect yourself and secure by your network. But if only you have that faith on your network security. You can change it by going to Yahoo Messenger main box -> Preferences -> Connection

8. Use Word Filter

You can also use your word Filter in Yahoo messenger. It just discards all the obscene or threatening words by intelligent filtering system if you choose Strong option. But be aware, there may be some times when your own friend can get banned while cursing your jokingly. Word filter is another good option to be within your network and not let some specifically targeted spammers to arrive. It increases security too. You can change it by going to Yahoo Messenger main box -> Preferences -> Chat.

9.  Be sure to Delete Your Profile after Chatting from a Public computer

Most of the users don't know about it. Whenever you sign in to yahoo messenger, yahoo makes a profile of yours in the directory Yahoo -> Messenger -> Profiles by the name of your yahoo id. There is an option by default at Yahoo messenger that messages will be saved as long as you are signed in to your account for that session. A good hacker can have access to that file and decrypt it to learn your private conversations.

What you must do if you are sharing a public computer to chat from, is, you can change it by going to Yahoo Messenger main box -> Preferences -> Archive. Change it to No, do not save any of my messages and you are done. Oh don't forget to delete your profile from Profiles inside Yahoo folder after you sign out.

10. Apply Your Common sense and Use a good Antivirus and anti spyware software

Applying your common sense is the least you can do to prevent your account from being hacked. A good anti-virus and anti-spyware always warns you about dangers that you may have overlooked. So its better to have them as well. If you implement the above 9 tips, you won't need to worry much I gues until you personally hand over your information to the person willing to crack your computer down.
